It all depends on the type of flooring you get. With all floors, you want to perform basic cleaning on a weekly basis. But some floors—cork, tile, and carpet—also require yearly upkeep, like waxing, resealing, and shampooing. The better you maintain your flooring, the longer it will last.

Pets are part of the family; they too need to be taken into consideration. You know your pet’s behaviour more than anyone else, so you know whether or not your pet will scratch up your cork floor or tear at your carpet. Keeping your pets brushed and clean, and trimming their nails regularly, will help prevent hair buildup and damage to your floors. Does your pet have accidents? Some floors can handle moisture, and others can’t. Consult with Siena’s flooring experts to find your pet-friendly floor.

Some people use the process of elimination. Others talk to flooring experts. Whichever route you take, there are many factors to consider when shopping for the perfect floor: style, use, location, maintenance, and budget. For more information about these factors, read Flooring for Your Lifestyle  or contact our experts at Siena Flooring.

Not necessarily. When it comes to installing new flooring over old flooring, the first step is to figure out what type (and sometimes types) of flooring are already under your feet. Depending on your situation, new flooring may be installed directly over your old floors; your old floors may need to be taken out; or, underlay may be placed between the old floor and the new floor. Consult with Siena’s flooring experts for direct help.

Some floors are better for certain spaces. For instance, in a bathroom, tiles are more appropriate than hardwood because excessive moisture damages wood. And a cork floor reduces sounds, so it will make everyone happier in a multi-level house. There are many factors to consider when picking a floor. Stay away from flooring that traps dust, bacteria, and allergens. Wood, cork, tile, and laminate are solid and easy to clean. Cork is even hypoallergenic. If you don’t want to part with carpet, choose a low-pile carpet and clean it regularly.

There is a large range of flooring options on the market and Siena Flooring carries them. Come in to our showroom and take a look at our hardwoods, tiles, corks, carpets, and laminates!
